How Fiber Market Came to Life

Hi! I’m Ashley, the founder of Fiber Market.

Fiber Market is a curated consignment store for fabric and yarn, built to support a more sustainable, affordable, and community-driven way to shop. I created this business for people like me: makers who love beautiful materials, and want an easier way to buy and sell within our craft communities.

This all started while I was at my local Joann, attempting to stock up after The Big Shutdown was announced. While shopping, I noticed so many customers with bolts upon bolts in their shopping carts, stocking up as much product as they could. I was jealous, wishing I had the space to do the same. My issue was that I live in a small home in Los Angeles, and had room for around 15 yards if I kept it in the trunk of my car.

That’s when it hit me: I have a cupboard full of fabric and yarn I still treasure, but haven’t found the right project for them. Will I ever? I wished I had a place where I could sell them, free up space, and know it would go to people who’d actually use it.

Fiber Market is that place.

I know I’m not alone. So many of us have these beautiful stashes at home, just sitting there. What we need is a way to keep these materials moving, without the hassle of listing them online (only for them to sit on the last page of a resale platform).

We inspect everything for quality, and every piece in our store has a story. Whether it came from a longtime hobbyist, a passed-down collection, or someone simply making space, our goal is to give great materials a second life.

This is just the beginning. One day, I hope Fiber Market exists in cities across the country so that no matter where you live, you can shop your neighbor’s craft room and be part of something circular, creative, and community-first.
